An Uber experience. VFA newsletter going out.

At 9:30 this morning my smartphone alerted me to a dental appointment coming up at 10:00. Slight panic; both Elaine and I had forgotten that was coming up and she had a nail appointment at 9:30! She had the car. I quickly decided to take a taxi and thought of Uber. I had never used Uber, and wasn’t even sure how it worked. But I installed the Uber app on my phone, created an account, and made a request for a pickup in about 8 minutes. The request was made and I soon had a map on my phone showing who was coming, what car he was driving, and the map showed his progress to my location along with a countdown timer to his arrival. The address I was able to enter did not include our lot number, so he did not get right there. But he quickly called me and we met up.

I arrived in plenty of time for my appointment. When done, I went back to  Uber and made a reservation to return home and the driver was there within 10 minutes or less.

All in all, it was a very good experience, and you can be sure that I will not hesitate to use Uber again. Both drivers were very professional and pleasant to ride with.

My dental cleaning and checkup went well. My situation in that regard is healthy, as usual, and I was happy to hear that. I do things to keep that the case.

This afternoon we took a quick trip to Trader Joe’s to pick up some items to take with us on our upcoming trip to Wyoming. We’ve had requests for items I have mentioned here that we have bought in the past, and we are fulfilling those. Bacon Jam, for example!

On our way back home from Trader Joe’s we still had to stop at Fry’s to  get some things not available at the other store, such as red leaf lettuce.

Yes, we are planning a trip to Wyoming. We’ll leave Wednesday morning, take three days to get to Rock Springs, spend a week or so there, and take three days coming home. We’ll be home by the 11th or 12th of October. We’ll be driving our motorhome so we will still be at home while on the road and in Rock Springs.

This afternoon we did not go swimming. Elaine did not want to go because of the wind – this makes it uncomfortable. I was tired from our shopping trip and every thing else and wanted a break. So I rested for about 45 minutes.

But then I had to go up to the FedEx Office store at Greenway and 7th St to review, approve, and pay for the Violette Family Association newsletter so it can be printed and mailed. This should be out by the end of this week. Part of the process is for them to validate the addresses; it turned out that the list I gave them was totally valid, so all on the list will receive a newsletter. Tomorrow I will send out those going by email.
