We had great seasonal weather today. Temps got into the mid-80s, which is normal for this time of year. And it looks like it will stay that way for the rest of the week. Tonight is Hallowe’en, and it will be very comfortable for all the kids out here in the Valley of the Sun.
I did some more work on my Violette.com web site – the new one – the one you are reading now. So far I am pleased with the WordPress results. I am still on a steep learning curve, though, and will be for some time.
I added a couple of pages to the site today: one provides a form for people to sign up to follow this blog by receiving the posts by email. People can choose to receive them when published, receive them once a week, or receive them once a month. Since I write almost every day, and sometimes twice a day, I suggest that the monthly option may be overwhelming! This option is available by clicking the new “Follow blog” button.
Sending of those emails is handled using a service called MailChimp. I have it set up so that MailChimp checks the RSS feed from my site every day at 7:00 AM and sends out any post that has been added since the previous day. While I had a connection with MailChimp for my previous site and had been using it for several years, I did the modifications to link MailChimp with this new site today.
Another page shows a map with all the RV parks and campgrounds marked in which we have stayed in the US and Canada. There are over 300 markers on that map! You can see that by clicking on the new “Out RV travels” menu item.
I also added maps in the right sidebar with the US states and Canadian provinces/territories in which we have stayed in our motorhomes over the period from 2006 through 2014. That total is 60! And Kerby has peed on every one, Gizmo only on 39.
There will be more coming over time.
I did some updating to the calendar at the Royal Palm Social Club web site today. I had not done the updates for irregularly scheduled events for November and got that done.
We are preparing to have our kitchen remodeled while we are gone over Thanksgiving and after. We have most everything purchased that is needed for the remodel, but one major piece of work that will be needed is to clear everything out of the existing cabinets before we leave. We bought a bundle of boxes at U Haul and today I prepared the first four to be loaded. We’ll start with the things we don’t use often and end with the frequently-used things. We’ll have to find places to store those boxes as we fill them. Because of the amount of work needed, we don’t want to wait until the last moment to get that work done. We would be too tired to take our trips!
