Elaine got invited to go to IKEA this morning with Pete Petersen and Bill Russell. They have often talked of shopping there but we have never been to an IKEA store mostly because they are just too large for me to last long in. So she was pleased to have this opportunity. They left around 9:30 and returned around 2:30, which means they spent about four hours in the store! She came home with two very large blue shopping bags as you can see in the photo, plus a box containing a knocked-down hassock or footstool for the deck that will need to be assembled.
I now have our Echo Dot linked with our Dish Hopper receiver and have done a little testing with it. The capability is somewhat limited: it can search for programs by an actor name, a program title, or a genre. I can ask Alexa to go to to a specific channel or a specific show, but I can’t ask Alexa to open the Guide or to change the TV volume. It will work with the DVR functions, including Pause, Fast Forward, and Resume. I suppose I can teach it to do some other things once I learn how to create “skills”. I can also send messages via Echo to anyone in my contact list who also uses Amazon Echo or Dot; the only ones I see right now on my list are Pete Petersen and Jan Ostlund. I am sure I will find others as time goes on.
Tonight we went for supper at one of our favorite restaurants – Las Glorias Grill on N 19th Ave just south of Northern. It is a great little restaurant and we have never had a bad meal there yet. Pete Petersen went with us and this was his first time; he was favorably impressed.
While Elaine was gone I did some work in the front yard. A couple of my irrigator spray heads were spraying a little onto the sidewalk, so I adjusted them.
I also cut a piece of aluminum angle to join and brace the opening between wood panels in the middle of the planter boxes on the front of the house. This will provide some stiffening and make sure the panels work together. I also finished painting the wood blocks I will use to mount the new metal sign we got recently. Should get that little project finished up this weekend.
