I mentioned a few days ago that I have decided to learn to use WordPress, a robust tool for creating and managing web sites of all kinds. In time, I will convert my existing client web sites to a WordPress base so that when I decide I no longer want to maintain them it will be easier and less expensive for them to find someone else to take them over. These are sites that I developed using my own SitePower system, but since that system is going nowhere further it is time for that change. But it will take some time for me to learn this new system. It was time to renew our passports. They were set to expire in February 2017, but you can’t go into places such as Mexico if your passport will expire in less than six months, so it was time. I filled in our application forms online and this morning we went to the Walgreens at 19th Ave and Northern to get our photos taken. Then it was just a matter of writing the checks ($140 each) and getting it all in the mail. I opted to get both the passport book and the passport card; the latter is all you need to go to Canada or Mexico if you are not flying, and is a lot easier to carry. I expect it will take a month or so to get our new ones. Continue reading Passport renewal. Motorhome to LaMesa.
Abuelo’s offers great Tex-Mex cuisine. We ate there tonight with Nancy and Bill Schuling; it is one of their favorite places and they used to live in that part of Peoria so ate there in the past. I took Elaine there for lunch a few weeks ago and we have been wanting to return for a supper meal. It didn’t take much to convince Bill and Nancy to join us; we just had to wait for an opportunity when Bill was off duty so we could do it. Ah, but the wait was worth it, for the meal was great as was the company. Continue reading Abuelo’s. Tablet backup.
I struggled most of the day with a thorny problem: how to backup Elaine’s Scatter Slots game data and status from her Samsung Tab 2 tablet. We are going to have to send it to Samsung for battery replacement and we don’t know if this information will get lost in the process. And we don’t want to take a chance that it will get lost. She has been using that app for a year or more and has gained substantial status points and has invested some dollars in it as well. We certainly don’t want her to have to start over, after all those hours spent with this fun game. Continue reading Tablet backup and sync.
Our TV in the office/craft room should now work as well as the one in the living room. I had installed an indoor antenna in the office, along with an amplifier, but still Channel 12 and sometimes others were subject to pixelating. Not a good situation. So I ran a new coax cable from the office, out through the wall, and along the trim at the top of the outside wall all the way to the back end of the house. From there I made a temporary run over to the other side of the back wall, where the feed from our outside antenna comes down the house. I installed a splitter in that feed and connected both the previous cable running under the house to the living room as well as the new coax I had run to that splitter. Continue reading Coax and splitter. Elaine tablet.
We’ve got a couple of slick boys tonight. Kerby and Gizmo were groomed today, and they are no longer shaggy and look like they have each lost 1-3 pounds. But that was all fluff. We are very happy with the job Danielle and crew do at the Pet Club store at 19th Ave and Northern. What is especially good for us is that Kerby and Gizmo like her and do not fight going to her salon. And she does a very good job of looking for potential problems such as Kerby’s lumps and bumps. They weigh each dog each time and let us know what they weighed in at. And, they are a lot of fun to talk to. A very lively place. Continue reading Grooming day. Coax start. New webs.
Kerby had the bandage and stitches removed this morning from the surgery to remove a wart on his left hind foot. He has done well since the surgery, with no indication of any pain or discomfort. And the wart came off cleanly and healed well according to his vet, Dr Young and Dr Campanile of Companion Pet Clinic. There is still some redness around the wound, but that will continue to heal and he will be alright. He was very calm at the vet’s office this morning and handled being worked on very well. Around noon today some clouds started rolling in, part of the front of Hurricane Newton that is working up from Cabo San Lucas into southeastern Arizona and western New Mexico. As a result, we were treated to a beautiful sunset tonight, with the clouds becoming colored from the setting sun. We may have a similar sunrise tomorrow morning and perhaps a sunset tomorrow night. But there is a forecast of rain, so there may too much cloud cover for a colorful sunset. We have rain forecast for the next couple of days. We need it. Continue reading New door latch. Sunset.
For a long time I have been frustrated as paper coming out of my printer encounters papers or other stuff on my desktop and does not come out cleanly. Finally I did something about it. I had found a solution at the Staples web site and went to the closest store and bought one today. Actually, the device is sold as a monitor stand, but it works just as well for printers. The design comes in two sizes – the large stand (22″ wide) and the standard stand (14″ wide). I got the large size and it fits my printer very well. We also tried to put Elaine’s Cricut machine on the stand but the space between its feet is too short to fit on the stand top. We’ll get another for her. Continue reading Printer stand. Quiet day.
Today was party day. Labor Day Weekend party day. So we went to two! This afternoon Leslie had organized a pool party for those of us who frequent the pool regularly. We each brought something to snack on and our own drinks. We spent our usual 30-45 minutes in the pool, doing our usual pool things, and then gathered in the shade of the pool umbrellas and shared the food that had been brought. There was a variety of snack items from which to choose, so no one would go hungry. I prepared some shrimp by marinating in teriyaki sauce for a couple of hours and then grilled them on the grill. They came out good. Continue reading Parties
