We’ve had some rain over the last couple of days, resulting in about 3/10ths of an inch in our area. In fact, we had several consecutive hours of rain yesterday; not raining hard but fairly constant. That was good, for we need it. It looks like we’ll be clear for the next few days, with temps in the mid-70s, but next week the forecast calls for temperature drops to below normal (69-70° is normal this time of year) and the possibility of more rain. It was time to recharge the golf cart batteries, but first I knew I should top off the electrolyte in the cells. I got out the distilled water and my battery filler jug and got that job done. Glad to see the levels were not down far. Then I put the cart on charge for a few hours to bring them back up to full. We have to recharge the batteries every week or so. Good to see that Elaine is feeling better and stronger! She felt good enough to go to the Royal Palm Social Club Board meeting this morning. That was a great effort for her, but she handled it well. She knew she was not over the infection problem as her mind was still fuzzy, but she got through the two-hour session. She was glad to get back home, though, and she spent most of the afternoon in her recliner. Continue reading Elaine: better. Board meeting. Church’s Chicken. Newsletter ads.
We were pleased to hear some raindrops on our awning roof this morning. It was about 7:30 or so and I had the front door open to get the morning air, so we could hear the rain quite clearly. As I mentioned a couple of days ago it’s been over 55 days now since the last measurable rainfall, so this was a big event! Don’t know when we’ll get rain again, though. The south side of our patio has a plastic lattice wall made using panels attached to the aluminum awning support frame. This provides some privacy and shade while still allowing free air flow. But we have noticed that the lattice panels are buckling with the heat and the edge of one panel has totally broken loose from its fastener screws. Aside from looking bad I was concerned that the unfastened panel could easily break in the wind. So today I used some stainless steel wire to fasten that loose edge to the post. Elaine and I went to the Royal Palm Social Club board meeting this morning. It was a good hour spent discussing potential programs and activities for the Club. Part of the concern is to have activities that will bring income to the Club to help support its programs. There was a lively discussion on several topics. One activity that the Club voted to have is a “Share The Pot” activity at Social Club meetings and other Club events. People buy tickets and the proceeds will be split 50% to the winner, 50% to the Club. The first of these will be the Social Club meeting coming this Saturday. Continue reading Board meeting.
