Rain

detention basin
There was water still in the Royal Palm detention basin this afternoon from last night’s storm

I mentioned in last night’s story that we expected rain. And the rain came. We got ¾ inch here in Royal Palm. There were puddles everywhere this morning, including on the floorboards of our golf cart. We had moved it in under our patio awning last night but the wind blew so hard from the west that the golf cart still got soaked. The reported amounts varied from ¼ inch in downtown Phoenix and further south to over an inch north of us. The storm lasted for a couple of hours or more and was accompanied  by thunder and lightning for some of the time. We left our front door open for much of the storm so we could enjoy the sound of the rain hitting the patio awning. It’s a rare enough experience! Continue reading Rain. Snow. Shopping.

20 degree difference. Back in Phoenix.

Yes, we experienced an environmental shift today! We’ve spent the last week and a half in Wyoming and Utah, and experienced a great difference in temperature and weather from what we would have had in Phoenix. The last couple of days we’ve seen high temperatures in the mid-70s, which has been very comfortable. Today we returned to Phoenix and temperatures in the mid-90s. We enjoyed that and took advantage of it by going to the pool  this afternoon. Continue reading 20 degree difference. Back in Phoenix.

Big storm over San Francisco Peaks on our approach to Flagstaff from the north

We had a good travel day today, with cloudy but good weather almost all the way to Flagstaff. As we approached Flagstaff on US 89 we could see heavy dark clouds over the San Francisco Peaks, and I thought I saw a couple of flashes of lightning. But there was no rain until we got close to Flagstaff, and only a very light rain as we turned in to J&H RV Park just outside Flagstaff. But as I was hooking up at the site I got some rain on me for a while; it went away as soon as I was done! We have been at J&H before and liked it, but have gone elsewhere because of the cost and because some spaces are not satellite-friendly. But it was all I could find and we were lucky to get a satellite-friendly space this time. We’re only here for one night. Continue reading Cocos is so-so. In Flagstaff AZ.
