Lantana plants
Our Lantana shrubs are putting out more blossoms now that temperatures are cooling.

I have noticed over the last few days that our Lantana shrubs are putting out more blossoms, and suspect that it is due to cooling weather. Our temps have been as much as 12° below normal the last week or so, down into the 80s and low 90s. I think our Moss Rose plants are putting out more blossoms as well. When I mentioned it to Elaine this afternoon she mentioned that it may be time to plant some pansies, petunias, and other annuals. Here in Phoenix we plant those flowers in October and they thrive through the winter, unlike in northern climes where they are planted in late May. It is too hot for them in May-October. Fast Eddie's decor
Some of the decor at Fast Eddie’s Restaurant

We went to Fast Eddie’s at N 33rd Ave and W Bell for breakfast this morning. We have been there often and enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Fast Eddie’s has an antique auto theme, with photos of old autos and their owners adorning the walls and other items in the auto theme as well. The sign shown in the photo is typical of the tongue-in-cheek attitude shown in some of the decorations. Continue reading Fast Eddie’s. More newsletter. Bottle rack. Potluck.

Family breakfast. On the road again.

group at breakfast
The Ogden group at breakfast

It was leaving day for Destry’s family and for Elaine and me. They are returning to Gladstone OR, we are returning to Phoenix AZ.  Taylor Dockter will be leaving soon for Missoula MT. So the Ogden family got together one last time for this visit, and had breakfast at The Viaduct Grill in Green River. This is where Johnna Ogden works and her daughter Tara does as well; Tara was our server this morning. The food was good and the company was excellent. We filled quite a table, as you can see in the photo! Continue reading Family breakfast. On the road again.

I got up around 6:30 this morning and had my breakfast as usual. A little later Destry got a call from brother Shane inviting us to join he and Johnna for breakfast at Village Inn. I went along to enjoy the company, though I only had a cup of coffee. We had a great time and it was fun watching Shane teach Cody how to build a drinking straw pyramid that Cody was calling a bonfire. Continue reading Breakfast with a gang. Visit from Kyle and Bryson. Gyro at Lucky’s. Craft stuff from Shauna. Yet another load. Elaine to WinCo.

Chowing down at Lucky’s Burgers and Shakes

In a change from usual, we headed to Lucky’s Burgers & Shakes for our supper tonight. Pete Petersen mentioned Lucky’s while we were at the pool and it sounded like a good idea to us, especially since Elaine had not decided what to make for supper yet. Plus, she had not been to Lucky’s yet. Pete and I had a gyro and Elaine had a burger and fries. Those gyros are delicious and generous; I brought half back for another meal. Elaine did the same with her burger. The fries are so outstanding I bought another order to take home; we’ll heat them up in the toaster oven tomorrow. Continue reading Gyro at Lucky’s. Bye, bye, Shauna.

We took Shauna to the airport early this morning for her return to her Green River WY home. We had a wonderful visit with her! Now that we don’t travel as much we don’t get to see kids often, and she had never been to our new place in Phoenix though she had visited our previous residence on Sweetwater Ave. Her flight went out at 8:40 from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, so we all had to get up before breakfast to get her there in time – we left home at 6:00. But all went smoothly. Continue reading Bye, bye, Shauna.

Kiss The Cook for breakfast. Quilting shopping. Dinner at Pappadeaux.

My Carrot Cake Pancake breakfast, with sausages

Saturday Breakfast Out was at Kiss The Cook in Glendale, a place we like to go to if we can get there early enough to avoid the rush and wait lines. Getting there around 7:45 accomplished that. Shauna spotted the Spinach Omelet on the board outside and had that, and I spotted the Carrot Cake Pancakes and had that. Elaine had Oatmeal with the works. It was such a nice day that we decided to eat on the outdoor patio at the front. Very comfy, but somewhat noisy. My sausage with my meal provided some leftovers for the boys, which they “attacked” me for upon arriving at home. Continue reading Kiss The Cook for breakfast. Quilting shopping. Shauna here for a visit.

Daughter Shauna Dockter flew in from Provo UT, having driven down from Green River WY, and we picked her up just after noon at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport out in East Mesa. She had a good flight down, and she was hungry. So we stopped at the Applebee’s on Power Rd and had lunch. Then she got to see mid- to late-afternoon traffic in the Phoenix area, made worse because it was a Friday afternoon, and probably worse because it was Good Friday.

We got home in time to change for swimming, and while Elaine and I were in the pool Shauna took advantage of the sun and a lounge to get some sun. At 92° it was a good day for it. The temp back in Green River was probably in the 55° zone!

Back home for a bit and for Elaine to have a chance to show Shauna around our house (that’s a three-minute tour in a place the size of ours). Then shortly after 5:00 we headed to Las Glorias Grill for supper. It was our second time there and, of course, Shauna’s first. We all enjoyed our meal. I had Pescado a la Diabla (tilapia fish in a spicy sauce). Elaine had a Shredded Chicken Chimichanga, and Shauna had a Steak Street Taco. We each brought home some leftovers, of course.

After dinner, none of us felt like doing more so we are relaxing in the living room watching Friday night TV. Gizmo and Kerby have been staying close by Shauna, enjoying having someone different to give them attention.

quilt
Craft ladies admiring the quilt Shauna made for Elaine.

We came back from doing some work this morning to find a surprise package on our deck. Addressed to Elaine, it was a beautiful large quilt done in – wait for it – violet and purple colors! It was from daughter Shauna; she made it herself, using her large quilting machine to finish it off. Elaine was so excited about it that she took it to her craft session this morning to show it to her crafting friends. I was there, and there were lots of wonderful comments about the handiwork. It will now fit nicely on our bed. Continue reading Beautiful quilt. Cleaning medical shed. Newsletter almost done.
