I spent a couple of hours today getting RV and camping items out of the shed and into the table area where we will be having the yard sale on Friday. The new items included two folding recliner chairs and another folding chair – each in a protective sack. And from another area I got out the long-handled scrubber/squeegees, of which I had two or three. I think we now have all the RV-related items out. Continue reading More RV stuff out. More shed rearrangement. Pool is still cool.
Elaine and I put in a hard day’s work this morning and while being tired from it we are also satisfied that we accomplished a lot. I started by finishing the shelves in the shed addition, then set up our two folding tables beside the house on the patio. Then, one by one, I brought out the dozen or so plastic tubs we have been storing in the shed and we went through them. Sell, pitch, or keep were the choices. We were merciless about it and did not vacillate about any items. We wanted to be done with all that “STUFF” that was hanging around! Continue reading A good day’s work. Prepping for yard sales. Happy Birthday, Agnes Volk! She is 93 years old and a lively, wonderful person – a real asset to Royal Palm. Her daughter-in-law, Donna Volk, organized a surprise birthday party for her and invited a lot of people from the Park – there were 23 of us at North Mountain Brewing Company for dinner tonight. We all enjoyed a great dinner and then shared a birthday cake with Agnes. I don’t know how Donna did it, visiting in Agnes’s house, but she made tons of decorations for the tables and had lots more for the walls. She and husband Glen, Agnes’s son, arranged for him to take Agnes out on some pretense and they “just happened” to end up at North Mountain where we were all gathered. It was a total surprise for Agnes! Continue reading Happy Birthday, Agnes. Stamping show. Shelves.
Marv finished his work on our shed addition today. It is now painted to match our existing shed and our house, and fits in quite well. Now it is my turn; I have to add the storage shelving inside as well as the padlocks for the doors. I am looking forward to getting those tasks done so we can start sorting out the plastic tubs now stored in the middle of the shed itself. That is mostly stuff from our motorhome, and we need to go through it to determine what to keep and what to get rid of. Royal Palm Social Club will hold a community yard sale on November 11th, and we want to have stuff ready to sell then. Continue reading Shed addition. Women’s Club. A visit to Chase Bank. Marv Fitchett was back at work on our shed addition today, and is making good progress. The roof panels are in place as is some of the siding, and he added two of the three doors today. At this point you can get an idea of what the space will look like, and I think it will provide a good amount of added room for storage. Continue reading Christmas dinner planning. Costco. Marv worked some more on our shed addition today and now has two walls up as well as the roof structure. I expect he will continue with it now that he has gotten back to it. He sometimes has to juggle projects, as he has a number of them going at any time. That’s the way it is in the life of a contractor handyman! He has to have several jobs on tap or in the works to keep the revenues flowing. Continue reading Shed addition. Newsletter printed. Leftovers. Internet down.
Walgreen’s sponsored a flu shot clinic here at Royal Palm today. They provided flu shots to residents at no co-pay cost; all we had to do was show up and bring our ID and insurance card. We just needed a minimum of 25 to keep it free. Elaine does not like needles, however. She shielded her eyes while I got my shot and then Annie Wallace had fun with her by offering to hold her while she got hers. It was a fun scene, as you can see in the photo, and all those in the room got quite a charge from it! The lady administering the shots did not quite know what to make of it. My major efforts today were in doing some cleaning and rearranging outside on the patio and back yard. Over time the winds had blown a bunch of palm husks and leaves onto our patio along with a coating of dust and dirt. It was time to sweep and clean, and that I did. Another time soon I will wash the patio as well and clean out the joints in the concrete slabs. But by the time I got my projects done today I was ready for a break and besides the heat was building up. Continue reading Cleanup day. Great burritos. Great supper.
I installed a new deadbolt lock on the shed door today. This is a Schlage BE369 lock that works with Z-Wave technology so I can connect it into my Nexia home automation system. My goal is to have a lock we can operate from inside the house. This will make it easier to control as well as make it easier to lock the door at night on those occasions when I forget to lock the door after using the shed. Continue reading New shed lock.
