The temperature dropped from 109° to 74° in 30 minutes. 0.84 inches of rain fell in less than 30 minutes out near Lake Pleasant. A dust cloud rose ahead of the storm, towering 2,000 feet or more high. Winds blew in excess of 47 mph. The storm moved into the Valley from the north-northeast. That’s what we got from watching Channel 5 news tonight. In fact, that’s about all they were talking about during both the 5:00 and the 5:30 news segments. This was the first big storm of the 2017 monsoon season. That storm moved down through the West Valley (Peoria, Glendale, Goodyear, etc). It took me a little while late this afternoon to realize what I was hearing – almost silence. Early this afternoon a sudden wind came up, blowing hard from the west. It kicked up dust and dirt here in the park and blew it all against us and past. I kept waiting for the rain to start falling, and was sure it would be a pelting rain. But it never came. I think the wind lasted for about an hour and a half, and then must have died down as suddenly as it came up. Now this evening the air is still and all I hear is the noise of traffic on I-80 in the distance. But that wind sure did rattle OurHous and made it shake! Continue reading Sudden storm. John visit.
