As proof that Elaine is feeling better, we went shopping this morning at Trader Joe’s and Costco and this afternoon at Winco! Each of those stores has things that we buy there rather than other places, including our regular grocery shopping store – Fry’s. Pete Petersen went with us to take advantage of the transportation and to share in the shopping. Elaine made it through the morning quite well, but took a short nap after lunch. And then she handled the afternoon shopping as well. That was good news! Continue reading Elaine better. Shopping, shopping, shopping. Purple lights, red lights.
Last week Elaine had placed an order with Bed, Bath & Beyond for an item to be delivered but realized when she got home she did not have a receipt for it and she did not get email confirmation. I checked our credit card account and saw the charges had been made so the transaction had happened. So today she wanted to go back to the store to be sure the details had been handled correctly. We stopped to chat with Pete Petersen and Bobby Fierro on our way out and asked Pete if he wanted to come. He said yes, if we were also going to Trader Joe’s, which is nearby. Sure, we told him. Continue reading More shopping LOL
It was WinCo shopping time today for Elaine. She invited Pete Petersen to come along since he cannot carry much with his only vehicle – a motor scooter – and he likes to shop at WinCo. He has convinced us of the values for shopping there as well as the quality of some of their offerings. I have liked the Tisdale line of wines he introduced me to; they cost in the $3 range but are good enough for my nightly glass of red wine. And there are several other items we get at WinCo instead of at other stores. So instead of only shopping at Fry’s, we now also shop at WinCo, Trader Joe’s, and sometimes Walmart for groceries. Continue reading WinCo shopping. Newsletter ready for printing. Banks are changing.
I guess we didn’t do enough shopping yesterday, for Elaine and Pete Petersen went to WinCo and Walmart today! Pete is a discerning shopper and is very aware of prices and values, and knows which products to buy in which store, so there are things for which he has convinced us to go to WinCo. As well, Elaine needed to do some shopping for the Royal Palm Rescue Pantry and both those places are good places to shop for the pantry. I’ll be able to go next time, for they saw some electric carts at WinCo; I can’t walk far enough to cover that huge store on foot. Continue reading Shopping. Newsletter. Cooler weather.
In a change from usual, we headed to Lucky’s Burgers & Shakes for our supper tonight. Pete Petersen mentioned Lucky’s while we were at the pool and it sounded like a good idea to us, especially since Elaine had not decided what to make for supper yet. Plus, she had not been to Lucky’s yet. Pete and I had a gyro and Elaine had a burger and fries. Those gyros are delicious and generous; I brought half back for another meal. Elaine did the same with her burger. The fries are so outstanding I bought another order to take home; we’ll heat them up in the toaster oven tomorrow. Continue reading Gyro at Lucky’s. Craft stuff from Shauna. Yet another load. Elaine to WinCo.
Our house was selected as Outstanding House Of The Month in Royal Palm for June. This was the second time we were selected; the first was after our remodeling and repainting a year or so ago. We are proud to be so designated. We have put a lot of work into making our house more attractive, and would enjoy the result even without this honor. You can see the sign in our front yard all this month.
Having updated the licenses for Kerby and Gizmo, today I updated the info at 24PetWatch.com – where their microchips are registered. The last address on file was our Texas mailing address and Gizmo’s info was not complete and there was no photo for him. While I was at it, I updated Kerby’s photo as well.
I added a z-wave light switch to operate the ceiling lights in the shed today. Or rather, I should say that Marv Fitchett did the wiring for me. This replaces the regular switch that has been there all along. The GE 12722 In-Wall Smart Switch connects nicely in our Nexia system. While it works locally by pushing the paddle on the switch, with a z-wave connection I can also operate the light from my smartphone, tablet, or computer. I also set up two buttons on the button panel by the front door to turn the light on and off as well.
Elaine did some major shopping at Winco and at 99¢ Only Store today. Part of it was shopping for the Royal Palm Rescue Pantry, part was for our own stores. Pete Petersen is an avid shopper at both places but has no car of his own, so he went along with her. I wish I could, but the Winco store is so large I cannot walk that far so Elaine has to handle it.
Elaine slept in this morning so no breakfast out. Instead she made breakfast burritos for us. Then we went to the Social Club meeting at 10:00. We didn’t win the Rent Raffle this year (we did in 2015); someone else got the $475 credit against their rent for March, and others won the $100, $75, and $50 prizes.
After lunch we went to WinCo to do some shopping; Pete Petersen went along with us. While Pete shops at WinCo often, we have not been there for a couple of years. It is a great place to shop. They have a great and wide range of things to buy and their prices are excellent – lower than any of the grocery chains and maybe lower than Walmart. I know their produce is better than Walmart.
We really like the egg rolls from WinCo; Pete has shared some with us in the past. So that is one specific thing we went for. But while there we did buy several other things as well. The WinCo store is huge! I managed to get about 1/3 of the way through and had to call it quits and return to the car. Elaine finished the shopping as did Pete; I don’t know how much more of the store they covered!
This evening we went to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen with Bill and Nancy Schuling. Their anniversary is tomorrow and ours was four days ago, so we went out to celebrate together. Pappadeaux on a Saturday night is a challenge. We got there at 5:15 and it was already packed and had a long waiting line. But we decided it was worth the wait so I got signed in and we waited. We would have had to make the reservation call at least two days ago to be able to make one for a Saturday. I found a seat at the bar and the others stood for a while waiting. Then two more seats opened up and Elaine and Nancy took those while Bill stood by; he ordered drinks for us all while we waited. It took 1:15 before we got seated and it was 8:30 by the time we got out. Elaine wanted a large (3 lb) lobster but they did not have one so she ordered Pasta Mardi Gras. I ordered Atlantic Salmon Alexander. I had a Andouille Sausage Gumbo for an appetizer, Elaine had a Lobster Bisque. Needless to say, we had lots of leftovers to take home from our main courses plus we ordered some dessert to take home as well. It was a great evening; we always enjoy being with Nancy and Bill.
