Lantana plants
Our Lantana shrubs are putting out more blossoms now that temperatures are cooling.

I have noticed over the last few days that our Lantana shrubs are putting out more blossoms, and suspect that it is due to cooling weather. Our temps have been as much as 12° below normal the last week or so, down into the 80s and low 90s. I think our Moss Rose plants are putting out more blossoms as well. When I mentioned it to Elaine this afternoon she mentioned that it may be time to plant some pansies, petunias, and other annuals. Here in Phoenix we plant those flowers in October and they thrive through the winter, unlike in northern climes where they are planted in late May. It is too hot for them in May-October. At Pizza Hut for supper. Cora on Elaine’s lap, Rachel, Johnna, granddaughter, Shane, Cody, Taylor, Shauna, and Casey

We started off our day with our usual Saturday morning breakfast out, this time at Village Inn. Rachel, Destry, Cora, and Cody went with us. Then we finished the day with supper at Pizza Hut. The same group was there plus Shauna and Casey Dockter, Taylor Dockter, and Shane and Johnna Ogden plus one of her granddaughters. A good time was had by all. I got up around 6:30 this morning and had my breakfast as usual. A little later Destry got a call from brother Shane inviting us to join he and Johnna for breakfast at Village Inn. I went along to enjoy the company, though I only had a cup of coffee. We had a great time and it was fun watching Shane teach Cody how to build a drinking straw pyramid that Cody was calling a bonfire. Continue reading Breakfast with a gang. Visit from Kyle and Bryson. Biker ladies. Grandkid time. Fun family dinner at Sapporo’s.

Elaine and Shauna on Harley
Elaine and Shauna on Shauna’s Harley

After Shauna finished her crossfit session this morning I took Elaine to meet up with her so she could go to Green River and Shauna could do her nails. Then she called for me to pick her up around noon and we went to Don Pedro’s for lunch. I drove our Equinox to the restaurant, but Elaine rode with Shauna on the back of her motorcycle – a big red Harley named Ruby. I think she enjoyed the ride, and I know Shauna enjoyed having her Mom on her bike! Continue reading Biker ladies. Grandkid time. Fun family dinner at Sapporo’s.

In Wyoming. Lots of family. This Old House.

house
The house where we are staying for this visit

We arrived in Wyoming around noon today, leaving Beaver UT around 8:30. Elaine had been in touch with Destry and Rachel and we knew they were somewhere behind us. They had flown into Salt Lake City this morning, rented a car, and headed up. They had their lunch on the way so we stopped at JB’s in Evanston for our lunch. After that they got a little ahead of us, but we were both heading to the same place. Destry had rented a house under AirBNB for the weekend and we were going to stay there with them. Server problems. Jo Behrman. Shane. Shauna and Casey.

The last 24 hours has been very frustrating! Right after I finished writing and publishing my entry last night a problem developed at the web server and my web site has not been available. That means that that even though there was a post to Facebook, people could not reach the story. I made a chat session with Arvixe tech support last night; that tech could not solve the problem and bounced it up the line to a higher level. But no response. Two more sessions with tech support today and still no resolution, though the last one did more testing and made the priority high when he bounced it up the line. I am writing this tonight using the server on my local laptop; this works fine and I will find a way to be able to post these stories for access until the problem gets fixed. Kyle, Ashley, Brycen. Less wind. Mud again. Slowwwww.

Elaine, Brycen, and Gizmo

Kyle, Ashley, and their baby Brycen came over for a visit this evening. Kyle is our grandson; Shane’s son. We brought with us a box containing a bunch of albums of old family photos from Elaine’s side. Kyle had said he wanted to have them and go through them, so Elaine had several months ago gone through them all and marked as many as she could that were not marked showing the names of the people in the photos. Kyle is interested in family history, so he is a good one to keep those photos. Tonight he and Elaine went through the albums and Elaine (and I to some extent) helped him learn who the people were that he did not know. This will be fun for him. Continue reading Kyle, Ashley, Brycen. Less wind. Mud again. Slowwwww.

Sapporo. Wind continues. Web work.

meal
This was my dinner. I only ate about one-fourth.

Part show, part great food, and part great company. That was our dinner at Sapporo tonight with Shauna and Casey Dockter. We had shared this with them the last time we were here, and looked forward to doing it again. Sapporo is a Japanese restaurant with your meal cooked in front of you on a large hibachi with lots of flair. These young chefs are trained to entertain, and that they do. We shared a Sapporo Special For Two – 8 oz filet mignon, 5 oz lobster tail, 8 pcs shrimp, 7 oz chicken. And we brought home about ¾ of each meal for leftovers! They will be yum. I enjoyed a saki-based martini and also had some squirted saki while the meal was being prepared. Continue reading Sapporo. Wind continues. Web work.

It started out miserable, but got better.

snowing
It’s snowing this morning

We were awakened around 2:00 this morning by a sudden burst of very strong wind against OurHous. This kept up for a long time, and it soon started raining. Elaine said this kept her partially awake for a couple of hours, but I went back to sleep again. When I got up the temp was around 48° but it kept dropping until by around 10:00 it was down to 38°. I had our rooftop electric heat going all night, but this morning I had to switch to gas heat; the rooftop heat pump units will not produce heat when the outside temp drops below the mid-40s. The wind let up this morning but was back with a vengeance around 10:00 or so and continued most of the day off and on. Continue reading It started out miserable, but got better.

Nails. Shane visit. Royal Palm web site.

nails
Elaine’s nails, as redecorated by Shauna

Shortly before leaving Phoenix last week Elaine had a nail appointment and had them redone, at least as far as the base goes. She told her tech, however, that her daughter is a licensed nail tech and that Shauna would add some finish details once Elaine got to Wyoming. Well, today was the day, and you can see the result in the photo at left. Some of those decorations are hand-done, but others are stamps. And in some I think there is a combination of stamp and hand work. In any case, the result is elegant! Continue reading Nails. Shane visit. Royal Palm web site.
